My Own Personal Guru

Several years ago I read the book Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert and fell hopelessly in love with the idea of having my own personal guru. I mean, who among us does not wish for our own personal source of wisdom… an intuitive and grounded counselor to guide us through life and give us clarity? How romantic… this exotic spiritual entity to personally lead me on my journey. Being the devoted student of personal and spiritual growth that I am, I of course began a quest to uncover the mysteries of the guru and find one of my very own.

The thing I discovered is this. I already have one and so do you… Life is our personal guru. Edith Wharton said “Life is the only real counselor; wisdom unfiltered through personal experience does not become a part of the moral tissue.” So you see… life is the greatest teacher of all. When we pay attention to our life we find it is a perfect mirror. Our life reflects boundless wisdom about the choices we have made and where it has taken us. By looking carefully at our lives and being present with ourselves, we can gain great insight into areas of our lives that need nurturing and attention. Peace symbolizes solid ground under our feet and chaos begs for attention.

Take time to look carefully at your life… what is draining you… what is fueling you? Taking steps as simple as organizing your closet can create energy in your life; giving yourself a day of personal pampering can renew your spirit.

Enjoy your personal guru… let the journey of life be a teacher you adore. It’s your life… love living it!!!
